Installation in my 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Similar interior to the 2007 & newer Silverado

Chassis: normally I would of placed the chassis under one of the seats, but there's air ducts for the rear passengers under there - that take up a lot of the space... making it too restrictive for mounting. So I looked around and found a place on the center post between the front & rear doors:

Typically I would mount the control head above - on the overhead console - but decided not to. Instead, placing it in direct view to where I won't need to take my eyes that far away from the road to read the display:

With the control in plain site, I needed to devise a method to allow quick removal when parking in an unknown area. I fashioned a metal "L" bracket.with a "tongue"... out of aluminum and mounted it to the control heads rear center mounting boss (sitting in the passenger seat for these pics):

Also note the FGPS-1 GPS unit installed into the rear of the head; I get -at least- 7 sats... and one time as much as 12. No problem with GPS reception there. Pic below has the head pulled out (not fully pushed into position) to expose the aluminum bracket:

Although that "tongue" has a nice tight fit when slid inbetween the crevice where the airduct & center console meet... I added a few small squares of velcro to the duct - and their mates to the back of the control head - to keep things snug and to eliminate any chances of rattles (head removed completely for this pic):

Here's the view from sitting in the drivers seat:
