You can use your 7100 and its built-in soundcard with only one USB cable
(provided) to get full transceiver control and Data modes for the latest
paid version of HRD and DM780, and probably most other sound card based
windows data software. NO audio cables or Signal Links needed.
1. Downloaded the new PC USB ICOM driver 1.2 for the 7100 at
http://www.icom.co.jp/world/support/download/firm/
2. Install the driver before connecting the one USB cable(provided) between
the 7100 and the PC/laptop/tablet. It will load the driver correctly with
two ports like 7 and 8 set.
3. Run the latest version of HamRadioDeluxe. It has settings for the 7100.
4. Make sure you have the settings on you HRD PC using the USB Mic. and USB
Speaker.
5. Also make sure the 7100 is set to send audio out the USB cable, not the
mic connection or the ACC connection. And touch the mode on the radio till
you get USB-D (or LSB-D).
HRD works fine even with Windows 8, using the MS Surface PRO touch screen on
HRD. Kind of neat using the Surface touch pen on the tablet screen AND the
7100 screen. The ICOM seems to like the pen. Then DM780 works fine on RTTY,
CW and PSK31. This works just like using only the USB cable on the 9100 or
7600.

Using a GPS with the 7100
1. Use a 3/32 Stereo plug and a DB9F. Connect Tip and Ring to pins 2 and 3
on the DB9F and the barrel to pin 5 of the DB9F. Plug in any SERIAL GPS.
Make sure the GPS is outputting 4800 baud, NEMA. Set the 7100 with GPS on.
If it doesn't work, reverse pins 2 and 3.
And remember the gps "PUCK" for the 2820 is only a powered GPS ANTENNA. The
GPS engine is on the DSTAR board that you install in the 2820.
Finally, if you send D-APRS from your 7100 do not select the time mode. Only
have it send location data on PTT. Sending timed location data will make the
Reflector DSTAR gods mad<g>.

Instead of adding a separate GPS for the DSTAR if you also have a GREEN
LIGHT LABS GPS for your Kenwood D710. This should also work with DSTAR ICOM
880, 7100. 91AD's.
If you have a Green Light LABS GPS attached to your Kenwood TM-D710, it has
an open 2.5 mm jack. Looking in the Green Light GPS manual, it's a GPS
output. Go to Radio Shack and buy 2 2.5mm jacks and wired up a cable. Swap
the tip and ring so it would communicate with the ICOM and leave the sleeve
connected to the braid on both ends. So now you can beacon on your Kenwood
and your ICOM DSTAR with the same GPS.
