the Mike Mercury Ham Radio Page How To Communicate to a Brand New Ubiquiti Device
Seems some have problems connecting to a brand new Ubiquiti... attempting to reflash the device for MESH usage. Here is a method that allows direct connection of your computer to the POE's LAN port.
NOTE: click here for special flashing instructions for the NanoStation
* Connect Bullet/AirGrid/Rocket/NanoStation to POE port on the POE adapter, via eithernet cable
* Connect your computer directly to the POE adapters LAN port, via eithernet cable
Disconnect any access to the internet by your computer. If you access the internet via WiFi, then disable WiFi on your computer during this. The following is using Windows XP; though it should be similar to other OS's
* Click on Start, Settings, Network connections (if you don't see "Network Connections"... go into "Control Panel" and find it there)
* Right Click on Local Area Connection... select Properties
* Single-left-click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click on Properties
* Click on the circle to the left of: Use the Following IP address
* Type in the following into the IP address field: 192.168.1.50 (press Tab after entering the"50")
* The Subnet mask should automatically fill in: 255.255.255.0
* Click OK
* Wait 30 seconds, and open a browser window, enter in this URL: 192.168.1.20
you should see the Ubiquiti factory menu appear. The username is: ubnt and the password is: ubntNow you can reflash the device for use on Hamnet Mesh
When the reflash is finished, do the same steps above all over again, except click on Obtain an IP address automatically
click on OK and you're back to where you originally were.
* open a browser and type in: http://localnode:8080 to access your AREDN reflashed Ubiquiti Bullet M2
you might need to recycle the power to the Bullet (and wait a minute or two) to get the AREDN Flash screen to appear the first time after a reflash. If you do this, close down the browser screen, cycle the Bullet power, wait a little, then re-open the browser screen... typing in http://localnode:8080
If you have done everything right, but still cannot bring-up the AirOS login screen...
try using another browser when commanding the http://localnode:8080 url. IE can have issues with factory fresh Ubiquiti nodes; FireFox and Chrome will work. Once you reflash with the AREDN mesh firmware... IE will work fine then.
default Flash user name: root
default Flash password: hsmm
Note: never recycle power to the Ubiquiti during the actual process of reflashing.
