UPDATING firmware on the Grandstream 1630

Summary

you will configure the 1630 to automatically upgrade via the internet.
Note: this is not the only method available.

1. Make certain your 1630 is connected to your Mesh network at this point

2. Run your browser, and enter your phones mesh IP address into the URL section, press enter.

You should arrive at this page, located on your Grandstream phone:

type in admin for both fields

on the next page, click on Settings or Maintenance, and then Upgrade and Provisioning

you should see the screen below:

this is the top half of this screen; make certain that "Always Check for New Firmware" is checked.

Scroll down to see the rest of this screen:

Pay attention to the last part "Firmware". HTTP should be checked and the server path should be as shown. Once that is all correct, scroll to the bottom and click on Save and Apply.

3. After waiting for the phone to complete the Save & Apply, unplug the mesh ethernet cable, and then pull the phones power cord.

4. Connect an internet active ethernet cable to the phones LAN port, then plug the power back in.

5. After powerup POST... about a minute or two the 1630 will "phone home to mama" and see if there's new firmware available; this is is all done silently in the background. On the 1630 display it should eventually ask if you want to download the new firmware, press OK/Yes button. It may take 5 minutes or so; you'll get various text during the procedure. Once the firmware upgrade finishes, the phone will reboot and you'll see the normal startup screen. Reconnect your 1630 to your Mesh node.

6. This last step is optional, but I personally don't leave my mesh phones set to Always Check for New Firmware. Instead I change that setting back to "Always Skip the Firmware Check". If you do this as well, don't forget to click on Save and Apply at the bottom of that page after changing.
