If you just purchased this radio brand new, I'd suggest reading this entire page before starting to program it, and the Hints page as well.

Observations First
Codeplug info further down the page

* Uses a standard USB cable to program, radio has USB mini jack on rear of unit.

I am using mine as a basestation; and left a USB cable plugged in the back... just to make it handier.

* Uses Icom type power cable.

connector on pigtail from radio, and on power cable, are the same as used on many Icom radios.

* MD-380 portable codeplug loaded right into the 9600.

I already had a MD-380 TYT portable, and to my surprise its codeplug loaded right into the 9600 software and uploaded into the radio fine. Note: you can't use the 380 program on the 9600... you need to download software specifically for the 9600, but then you can load the 380 codeplug into the 9600 program and write it to your mobile. Link for the 9600 program (and a beginning codeplug file) is further below. A few things did not copy over from the 380 file; mainly the pushbutton assignments.

* I've read all the negative reviews from 2017 about this radio when it first came out, but...

the one I purchased is a "Rev 3", three revisions from that original model. I am not experiencing any of the earlier reported problems.

* Scanning Function

The scan speed of this radio is mediocre. I've found that if you have more than 6 channels in a scan list... you can miss portions of transmissions.

Codeplug

left/right click HERE to download a beginning codeplug, with 2 zones (if asked when downloading, do not save as a "txt" file).
One zone is all local analog repeaters, the second zone is all the DMR groups for Timz repeater. Please read entire page before programing your radio.

left/right click HERE to download the TYT programming software V1.22 which worked fine on my V3 version radio.
Note: I do not know if this also works on the Retevis RT90 mobile, never tested it.

Button Assignments

Note: the Zone Select button P4... after pressing and releasing... it takes about 2-3 seconds for it to switch to the new selected zone.

After loading the codeplug file into the 9600 software program, go to:

General Setting tab
*near the top center, type in your Call Sign in "Radio Name"
*just below that, type in your DMR ID

note: you will need a digital radio ID; it's easy & free. click: https://www.radioid.net/#!
click the box near the bottom of the page:
"I AGREE TO THE ABOVE TERMS AND CONDITIONS", and then click
"Register Account"

Save the file under a different name and upload it into your radio. You are now ready to start talking.

Note: upon first power-up after initial programing, the radio will boot up into the Analog Channels zone for both A & B bands. Press & release the ZONE (P4) button to switch to the DMR channels.
